Personal Aethalometer Model AE51
Model AE 51
MicroAeth - PersonaMonitor

The MicroAeth Model AE51 is the world's first ever real-time, pocket-sized Black Carbon aerosol monitor. The instrument can be placed virtually anywhere and provide real-time information about the concentration of black carbon in the atmosphere. The MicroAeth incorporates the same aethalometer measurement technology which has been used worldwide for over 25 years.

The instrument can operate continuously for up to 24 hours on a single battery charge. The air sample is collected and analyzed within the MicroAeth instrument on a quartz fiber filter strip. Optional filter strips are available which contain unique serial numbers. The serial number can be used to track the filter strip following its use in the MicroAeth for archiving and possible further chemical analysis in a laboratory. All data, including instrument status and BC measurements, are stored using on-board Flash memory. The MicroAeth connects to a PC using a supplied USB cable and interfaces with the intuitive MicroAethCOM PC-based software program. The software is used to program the MicroAeth, view current instrument conditions, and download the collected data. The software also provides Quickview graphs to evaluate data and diagnostic information immediately.

Soon to come, the high altitude version of the MicroAeth specifically designed to measure aerosol black carbon in atmospheric vertical profiling studies. This specially configured instrument will use a high flow rate pump, on-board barometric pressure sensor, and other provisions to properly operate under reduced pressure and temperature conditions. It will also include a Global Positioning System (GPS) for resolving latitude, longitude, and altitude of the instrument while in flight.

AE 22 Network BC Monitor

The Aethalometer TM is the worlds leading method of measuring black carbon (BC) or elemental carbon (EC) particles in air.
The Aethalometer is an instrument that uses a continuous filtration and optical transmission technique to measure the concentration of BC in near-real-time. This technique was developed in the late 1970's by Dr. Tony Hansen, the president and founder of  Magee Scientific. Since the mid-1990's, the instrument has gained widespread use for air quality monitoring, emissions testing, and public health research. Several versions are available from a single wavelength system which can be used as a stand alone or fitted to some existing PM monitors. A dual wavelength system which is able to differentiate certain "non black" organic materials by using an additional UV measurment. The top of the range system uses seven different wavelengths to provide comprehansve information relating to different chemical and physical properties of the particulate matter. Air Monitors Ltd are the exclusive distributor of the Magee range in the UK and can advise on the correct model for your particular needs.

Portable Model AE42

AE42 Portable BC Monitor

The AE42 Portable Aethalometer measures optical absorption by suspended aerosol particles at two wavelengths: 880 nm (IR), quantitative for the mass of Black Carbon; and 370 nm (UV), indicating aromatic organic compounds.  The instrument's analytical performance is identical to the "full size" AE22, but it is constructed in a small portable case with an internal battery providing several hours of mobile operation.  The AE42 can also be operated from an AC transformer or by cables from an external battery or automobile power outlet.  This instrument is widely used for studying indoor air quality, and for the mobile mapping of the air quality impacts of localized sources.

The Portable Aethalometer may also be supplied with "seven wavelength Spectrum" optics upon request. The AE42's can be supplied with a GPS position receiver kit that attaches to the instrument's COM port. The instrument can then record the GPS position input data for mapping in mobile or survey use.

Tranmissometer Model OT21

OT21 Lab BC Monitor

The Optical Transmissometer analyzes filter-collected samples for Aerosol Black Carbon ('BC' or 'EC') using 880 nm light, and Aromatic Carbon (OC) using 370 nm light, to match the optical analysis of the standard Aethalometer®.

Accepts 47, 37 and 25mm diameter filters. Barcode scanner option is available for sample identification. The instrument can be connected to personal computer using included Data Logger software. Constructed in lightweight, bench top case with operation from 12 V DC: line power supply for operation from 110-220 V AC.

The transmissometer analysis is non-destructive, allowing for further chemical analysis to be performed. The instrument analysis process is fully automated and requires no support gases or consumables. A second filter position inside the analysis chamber allows for simlulateous reference (blank) measurement to be made along with the sample measurement.

Analysis results are displayed on the front main screen and communcated externally via COM port to a computer. The data is output in a .csv compatible format for easy importing into spreadsheet application.
